The Tennessee Court of Appeals is an intermediate appellate court that focuses on civil matters, reviewing appeals from trial courts and certain state boards and commissions. The court issues written opinions that help keep the application of Tennessee civil law consistent across the state.
The court has 12 judges who decide cases in panels of three. Panels meet monthly in Jackson, Knoxville, and Nashville, and when necessary the court may also meet in alternate locations to support access statewide.
