The Tennessee Court of Appeals is an intermediate appellate court that hears appeals in civil cases from trial courts and certain state boards and commissions. The court issues written opinions that guide lower courts and help keep civil law applied consistently across Tennessee.
The court has 12 members who sit in panels of three. These panels meet monthly in Knoxville, Nashville, and Jackson, and hearings focus on the record and legal arguments rather than witnesses or juries.
