Upholding Justice at the Highest Level
The Alaska Supreme Court is the highest court in the state, serving as the final arbiter of legal disputes and ensuring the uniform application of the law across Alaska. Established shortly after Alaska achieved statehood in 1959, the court has been instrumental in shaping the state’s legal landscape.
Comprising five justices, including a chief justice selected by peers for a three-year term, the court hears appeals from lower state courts and has the authority to issue original opinions on matters of significant public interest. Its decisions are binding on all other Alaska state courts and can only be appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States.
